Roker Riches: Betting Aint Easy; Can An SAFC Win Bring Home The Money?

With only one winner last week the Roker Report writers are in panic mode - can backing a Sunderland win net us some major profit this week, or will we all be left with egg on our faces again in the event of a loss?

Progress & Week #17 Table

Last week was a bad one for our pundits, with only Gav winning a bet. His free £5 accumulator of Monaco, AC Milan, Sevilla and RB Leipzig wins romped in to net him an impressive £63, earning this week's top winner an overall profit of £48.

This Week's Bonus Prize...

If Sunderland win against Leicester this weekend the banker has promised the Roker Report writers another free £5 accumulator bet for next week. Here's hoping that Defoe and the lads can bring us another sweet home victory and, in turn, some free cash to play with!

Writer's Picks For Gameweek #17

I have £33 to spend before I’m bust so I’ve decided to do the only logical thing and spend it all this week - my head is still gone from Scotland knocking me out of almost £750 a month or so back.

My Sunderland bet is going to be a naive punt on SAFC half-time/full-time, which has odds at 5/1. I’m going to lump £15 on that. Elsewhere, I’m backing the favourites AGAIN, and hopefully I’m not asking for too much by punting on a few of the favourites across Europe this weekend in a nine-fold accumulator.

Sunderland half-time/full-time: 5/1 - £15 returns £90

Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Juventus, Monaco & Celtic all to win: £18 returns £401.28

Despite not hitting the heights of last season, Leicester still haven't struggled for goals and given we've only kept one clean sheet all season, I don't think we'll claim a second against the Foxes. I still fancy us to edge the game though, so I'll take up Dafabet's price boost of Sunderland to win with both teams to score at 6/1. If Sunderland can keep up their recent spike in form, then £5 will return me £35.

Since Crystal Palace are so terrible at defending set pieces that I'm backing a defender to score against them when they play Southampton. Virgil van Dijk loves getting among the goals and I can see him powering a header past Wayne Hennessey. Even if his goal doesn't come about in the way I predict, I'll still pocket the cash from a fiver bet on Van Dijk to score any time. Odds are 11/2, which would return £32.50 including stake.

Sunderland to win and BTTS: 6/1 - £5

Van Dijk to score anytime v Palace: 11/2 - £5

It's a huge game this weekend. We need a huge player to get us off to a flying start. Victor Anichebe is a big, big, big bloke. I've put two and two together and put £4 on him to score first this weekend.

In my other bet, I've gone for my 191st acca of the season. I have a problem. I've plumped for six teams to win (Spurs, Stoke, Sunderland, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Juve) and I've put £6 on it in the hopes that it will buy me a Christmas turkey the size of Victor Anichebe.

Victor Anichebe to score first: £4 - 8/1

Six team accumulator: £6 returns £168.43

We could just about afford to lose last week after winning the two games previous to the trip to Anfield, but that loss against Liverpool means we need to pick up at least a point this weekend and there are some good omens for backing us to win. Leicester's record away from home in the Premier League this season make poor reading for Claudio Ranieri, as they've only picked up one point out of a possible 18, conceding 16 and scoring five in those six games. While in the games preceding Champions League ties - Leicester face Porto away in midweek - they have only picked up one point out of a possible 15, conceded 14 and only scored four. So with that said, I'm backing us to win but both teams to score, which has been price boosted to 6/1 with Dafabet.

Everton's form has suffered recently, highlighted by the 5-0 thrashing they got at Chelsea but they've also lost at Southampton and failed to beat Swansea at home. They face Manchester United this weekend who have improved of late but that has mainly been outside the Premier League. So I am going for Everton to find a bit of form and overcome Jose Mourinho's team.

Sunderland to win and both teams to score: 6/1 - £10

Everton to win: 13/5 - £5

My Sunderland bet this week will be Jermain Defoe to score the first goal, which has a price boost from Dafabet, giving it 11/2 odds. I'll place £3 on that.

My second bet will be Birmingham to beat Barnsley, Yeovil to get the win at home to Crawley and finally Stoke to pick up all three points against Burnley. I'll place a fiver on that with 5.78/1 odds.

Defoe to score first v Leicester: 11/2 - £3

Birmingham, Yeovil & Stoke all to win: 5.78/1 - £5

I'm going to try and maintain some momentum by sticking with another four-fold accumulator that delves into the four top leagues in Europe outside of the English Premier League.

Borussia Dortmund lost last week to form team Frankfurt but they have a chance to put things right this weekend against Borussia Monchengladbach, who are the most out-of-form side in the entire division. The odds aren't great but I feel that this is a dead cert, and I'm going to place it alongside wins for 3rd placed Sevilla (away to bottom side Granada) Calgiari (away to Pescara) and PSG (away to Montpellier), returning me £124.20 off a tenner.

I'm getting on the Dafabet price-boost hype train and placing a fiver on Sunderland to win and both teams to score. At 6/1, it seems like a decent punt and I won't want to be left wishing I had put it on once the rest of the lads are sat collecting their winnings!

Fourfold accumulator: £10 returns £124.20

Sunderland to win & BTTS: £5 - 6/1
