NewsWipe: Forgotten Winger Rumoured, But Does Linked Striker Want To Stay Where He is?

In today's Transfer-Gossip Special: A roundup of players being linked with Sunderland you may not have read about just yet.

Forgotten Winger 'Interesting Sunderland'

Sunderland are monitoring Turkish winger, Kerim Frei, according to reports in his home country. The 22-year old is currently with Beşiktaş, having originally emerged at Fulham as a youngster.

Frei made 23 appearances for the Cottagers, before a brief spell on loan at Cardiff City. He has been with Beşiktaş since 2013.

West Ham are one of the other clubs reported to be interested in signing the Austrian-born player who has previously worked with Hammers boss, Slaven Bilic, who managed the Turkish club prior to his arrival in London.

The player has struggled for game time since the departure of Bilic and a return to Fulham has also been mooted. Newcastle were reportedly interested in signing him last season during Steve McClaren's mega-bucks January transfer window which couldn't prevent the Magpies slipping down to the Championship.

Reports have put a price of around £3m on the fee required to tempt the player, who can play centrally or out-wide, to England.

Roker Rumour Rating: Hard to know what to make of this one. The player is likely agitating for a move and Sunderland will be scouring the bargain-buckets of Europe to unearth a gem or two who could provide a catalyst towards safety. Certainly the current squad is devoid of attacking talent from midfield. That said, Turkish websites have a thing for Sunderland at present, with Jeremain Lens and Jason Denayer gossip featuring for a couple of weeks now. Has potential: 5/10

Another Winger - This One Dutch

Sunderland are also being linked with Luciano Narsingh who is currently with PSV Eindhoven.

Right-footed, the 26-year-old is a versatile attacking midfielder who can play on the right or the left wing.

He has started ten games for PSV this season in the Eredivisie, scoring once. He also scored last month in the Champions League against Bayern Munich.

Narsingh is also being linked with Liverpool and West Brom. A fee of £4m might lure him to England.

Roker Rumour Rating: Sunderland are a bit of an add-on to this one. Linked with Liverpool, West Brom......and us. He has pedigree but we're merely a make-weight in this rumour, probably. Interesting but flimsy, admittedly he suits red-and-white: 4/10

Striker Affirms Commitment to Current Club - Admittedly Because He had To

Moussa Marega has filled a few column inches in the last few weeks. The 25-year-old is currently banging them in for Vitoria Guimaraes in the Portuguese league.

The sisters-in-gossip, The Shields Gazette and the Sunderland Echo, both simultaneously claimed Sunderland could make a move for Marega a few days ago based on someone in Portugal hinting the striker might fancy a move to England.

With Liverpool and Tottenham also said to be tracking the player who is on loan from Porto, yesterday Marega gave a statement to Portuguese media stating "I want to stay here and help the club. I'm focused one hundred percent in Vitoria".

In truth he didn't have much choice. Having been sent off in the 21st minute of the last domestic match before the international break, he was forced to issue an apology to teammates and fans and now faces a three-game suspension.

Roker Rumour Rating: Not a chance. We've reported before that Marega allegedly has an enormous buy-out clause in his contract with Porto, meaning anything other than loan deals are unlikely in the foreseeable future. Not even Liverpool or Tottenham are likely to pay the £35m whopping price inserted in his last deal to ward off would-be suitors. Incredibly doubtful: 2/10

Kone Rocks France, Denayer Enjoys Some Sun

Lamine Kone lined up for the Elephants of Ivory Coast for a friendly match against Les Bleus of France on Wednesday night.

By all accounts he was awesome:

Jason Denayer enjoyed a short break in Dubai during the international hiatus. Allegedly it was one of the reasons he wasn't called up to Roberto Martinez' Belgian side as a late replacement for Vincent Kompany - it would have taken him too long to get back to Europe.

Should have gone to Scarborough.
