Jordan Pickford– 8
Looked like an experienced premier league goalkeeper making countless saves throughout and very little he could do with any of the goals.
Patrick Van Aanholt – 7
Gave Sunderland the lead with a great finish and he got forward continuously, however he switched off for Tottenham’s equaliser.
Billy Jones– 5
Not one of Jones’s best performances both in attack and defence.
John O’Shea– 6
Another solid defensive game from O’Shea especially in the first half as Spurs created nothing through the middle. Formation changed to five at the back on the hour mark which looked to have unsettled the backline.
Wes Brown – 5
Looked ok along with O’Shea in the first half but as the game wore on he got tired and couldn’t get out to Dembele quick enough for the third goal.
Lee Cattermole – 5
Got into a good position on the line for Tottenham’s equaliser and should have been able to clear it but he made a mess of it. Looked slow in possession but without the ball he did ok. He was substituted early in the second half.
Yann M’Vila – 5
Looked tired after so many games and didn’t really get close enough to closing down Spurs often enough.
Jeremain Lens – 4
Lens didn’t offer a lot and probably should have been brought off earlier for the hungrier Watmore.
Adam Johnson– 7
Looked better when he came inside and he played a great ball through for the opening goal. Decent performance from Johnson
Danny Graham– 4
He didn’t do much and he was playing out of position so you can’t put too much blame on him as he doesn’t look comfortable out on the wing.
Jermain Defoe– 5
Defoe put a good shift in but was left stranded on his own too many times and he missed a great chance to put Sunderland back in front early in the second half.
Jack Rodwell– 4 (Sub)
Just the usual from Rodwell.
Jan Kirchhoff– 1 (Sub)
Awful debut. He didn’t close down Eriksen for the third goal and he turned his back on the shot. Also gave away the penalty when he needlessly brought down Rose.
Duncan Watmore– 5 (Sub)
Not really given much time to make an impact.
