OFFICIAL: Cats Pounce For Full Back

You can cross a right back off the list of Sunderland summer needs.

Adam Matthews has completed his £2million move from Celtic to become Sunderland's second signing of the summer.

With Santiago Vergini's post-Poyet future uncertain and persistent links with Carl Jenkinson of Arsenal and Leeds' Sam Byram, it was clear that Dick Advocaat had placed an attacking right back on his summer shopping list and Matthews fits the bill.

The 23-year-old Welsh international has penned a 4-year deal on Wearside, and was apparently been a target for some time, with Sporting Director Lee Congerton telling the club website:

"Adam is a player we have been tracking for some time.

"Even though he is only 23 years old, he has a wealth of experience, and I am sure he will continue to improve under the leadership of Dick Advocaat."

Advocaat himself, added:

"We know that we need quality players to improve competition for places in the side, so Adam is a welcome addition to our squad and we are very pleased to welcome him to Sunderland."

So, there we go. Seems Sunderland are getting through some early business.
