There have been reports today that Jeremain Lens was set for a medical with Sunderland in the next 24 hours but, according to the player himself, although he's not currently having a medical he is in talks with the club;

I'm not undergoing a medical examination but I am in talks with Sunderland. I've never made a secret of the fact I'd like to go to the Premier League.

Despite Dynamo [Kyiv] being in the Champions League, now seems like a good time to make the switch.

Lens has already worked with Dick Advocaat, during spells at AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven, something he says will be a big plus;

We have previously worked well together at AZ and PSV. We know each other, that's ideal.

During the interview with foxsports.nl, the Dutch international said the transfer isn't quite there yet but is keen to make the move. With the unstable situation in Ukraine playing a part in the 27-year-old's decision to leave Dynamo;

It's not quite there yet but it is clear that I very much want to and have set my sights on a transfer.

When I signed here in 2013 there was not a lot going on. Since then a lot has happened.

I don't feel unsafe but the situation is unresolved, it seems best for my family and I that I move to England.

Although Lens referenced the rumoured medical in the interview, there's no mention in the article of exactly when the quotes are from. So rumours of an impending medical after a fee was agreed could still be true if the transfer has moved along since he gave the interview in the Dutch press.

Either way, it appears as if he is on the way to becoming our third signing of the summer, after Adam Matthews and Sebastian Coates and should he sign in the next few days it is likely he will join up with the rest of the squad for the North American tour.
