John O'Shea and Liam Bridcutt stepped into the Sunderland side in place of the injured Wes Brown and Jordi Gomez for the potentially crucial visit of Leicester City.

O'Shea returns after shrugging off the injury he picked up against Southampton, while Bridcutt gets the call in midfield ahead of the fit-again Emanuele Giaccherini, who returned to the bench.

Sunderland (4-3-3): Costel Pantilimon; Billy Jones, Patrick van Aanholt, John O'Shea (c), Sebastian Coates, Liam Bridcutt, Lee Cattermole, Seb Larsson, Connor Wickham, Danny Graham, Jermain Defoe.

Subs: Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson, Anthony Reveillere, Emanuele Giaccherini, Santiago Vergini, Will Buckley, Vito Mannone.

Leicester, who arrive on the back of six wins in their last seven games, made just one change, with Andy King returning to the midfield.

Leicester City: Kasper Schmeichel, Marcin Wasilewski, Robert Huth, Wes Morgan, Martin Albrighton, Esteban Cambiasso, Riyad Mahrez, Andy King, Jeff Schlupp, Leonardo Ulloa, Jamie Vardy.

Subs: Mark Schwarzer, Richie De Laet, Paul Konchesky, Danny Drinkwater, Dean Hammond, Chris Wood, Andrej Kramarić.
