Sunderland vs. Leeds United: Confirmed Line-ups

The teams are in for the FA Cup third round tie against our 1973 cup final opponents.

Patrick van Aanholt makes his return from the shoulder injury he picked up against Crystal Palace as Gus Poyet makes six changes from the 3-2 loss at Manchester City.

van Aanholt replace Billy Jones at left back, with Sebastian Coates, Liam Bridcutt, Ricky Alvarez, Emanuele Giaccherini and Steven Fletcher also coming in at the expense of Wes Brown, Seb Larsson, Will Buckley, Adam Johnson and Connor Wickham.

There are also places on the bench for Academy graduates Max Stryjek (goalkeeper), Tom Beadling (central defender) and Tom Robson (left back).

Sunderland (4-3-3): Costel Pantilimon; Santiago Vergini, Sebastian Coates, John O'Shea, Patrick van Aanholt; Jack Rodwell, Liam Bridcutt, Jordi Gomez; Ricky Alvarez, Steven Fletcher, Emanuele Giaccherini.

Subs: Max Stryjek, Tom Beadling, Tom Robson, Seb Larsson, Will Buckley, Adam Johnson, Connor Wickham.

Neil Redfearn makes seven changes from their defeat at Derby five days ago, with 35-year-old central defender Dario Del Fabro and on-loan Nacional Asuncion striker Brian Montenegro handed their first starts for the club.

Leeds United (4-4-2): Marco Silvestri; Gaetano Berardi, Liam Cooper, Dario Del Fabro, Charlie Taylor; Rudy Austin, Luke Murphy, Casper Sloth, Adryan; Mirco Antenucci, Brian Montenegro.

Subs: Stuart Taylor, Ross Killock, Zac Thompson, Kalvin Phillips, Chris Dawson, Billy Sharp, Souleymane Doukara.
