Tottenham vs. Sunderland: Confirmed Line-ups

Gus Poyet springs a couple of surprises as he gives Jermain Defoe his Sunderland debut and switches to a 3-5-2 formation.

Defoe starts up front with the returning Steven Fletcher, with Santiago Vergini, John O'Shea and Wes Brown making up the back three. Billy Jones also comes in and plays at wing back with Patrick van Aanholt, while Adam Johnson plays as an attacking central midfielder. Jack Rodwell replaces the suspended Liam Bridcutt.

Sunderland (3-5-2): Costel Pantilimon; Santiago Vergini, John O'Shea, Wes Brown; Billy Jones, Seb Larsson, Jack Rodwell, Adam Johnson, Patrick van Aanholt; Jermain Defoe, Steven Fletcher.

Subs: Vito Mannone, Sebastian Coates, Jordi Gomez, Emanuele Giaccherini, Will Buckley, Danny Graham, Connor Wickham.

Mauricio Pochettino makes two changes from Tottenham's last league game, a 2-1 reverse at Crystal Palace. Eric Dier starts in central defence replacing Federico Fazio and Roberto Soldado comes in for Andros Townsend, with Harry Kane dropping back into a number 10 role.
