Well, there goes another one! Another transfer deadline go goes by and Sunderland were once again active, though perhaps not quite as active as many would have liked.
The deals that did happen were the ones that were pretty much expected. Ricky Alvarez arrived on loan from Inter Milan and Sebastian Coates sealed a loan switch from Liverpool. In terms of outgoings, Mobido Diakite had his contract terminated before shooting off to Fiorentina, whilst Valentin Roberge went on a season's loan to Stade de Reims in Ligue 1.
It was more the ones that got away that made the headlines. Danny Welbeck, perhaps never a realistic deadline day target for Sunderland, went to Arsenal for an awful lot of money. Toby Alderweireld plumped for a loan switch to Southampton. Fabio Borini, on the other hand, briefly flirted with a move to Queen's Park Rangers before deciding transfers were just something that other people do and Liverpool's reserves was the hip, happening place to be this season.
The club also failed to get rid of - sorry, 'failed to offload' - Cabral and Danny Graham, though at least the Championship loan window opens in just over a week so they may find clubs then.
Anyway, that's a wrap. We'll have plenty of reaction over the next few days so stay tuned.
