It was always a long shot at best, but Danny Welbeck won't be making a return to Sunderland today.
The Manchester United man, who is now deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford following the expected arrival of Radamel Falcao, is reported to be heading to Arsenal as the replacement for the injured Olivier Giroud.
There were reports this morning that Sunderland were one of the few clubs prepared to pay a frankly extortionate loan fee to sign him, but it always looked unlikely. Without wanting to put ourselves down, it always looked like Welbeck would have far better options than us.
Ah well. Cross another one off the list!
