According to the Daily Mail's transfer deadline day blog, Sunderland are attempting to resurrect a deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Cristian Rodriguez.
The move was close to happening earlier in the summer before it all collapsed due to an unspecified problem, but Rodriguez has not found the move that he claimed to crave this summer leading to speculation that Gus Poyet could try again for his countryman.
However, it seems to be total rubbish. For a start, it's in The Mail. That's generally a big clue. However, Sunderland's imminent capture of Ricky Alvarez from Inter Milan suggests there is no actual point in signing Rodriguez now.
Both are left-footed, can play out wide or in the middle, and want to go past people offering that little spark in the final third Sunderland have so far lacked this season. You never say never on deadline day, but it appears to make zero sense at all.
