Gus Poyet has made no secret of his wish to sign a fellow Uruguayan during this transfer window and after being linked with the likes of Cristian Rodriguez, Abel Hernandez and Jose Gimenez, it appears as if Liverpool's Sebastian Coates will finally fulfil Poyet's wish.
There are widespread reports that Coates will sign a season-long loan deal before the end of the day, with the Daily Mail reporting that the central defender is already in the North East ahead of completing his loan move.
The 23-year-old missed most of the 2013-14 season after picking up an injury on international duty but did return to former side Nacional on loan late in the season and did enough to earn a place in Uruguay's World Cup squad, making a solitary appearance in the 2-1 win over England.
Any move for Coates will likely be complicated by our on-going interest in Fabio Borini, with Poyet likely to keep trying for the Italian until late in the day. Expect the Borini saga to be over as soon as Coates' move is rubberstamped, well until January at least...
