Gus Poyet has made just one change for his side's last Premier League game, the 1-1 draw at home to Manchester United. Adam Johnson is back from an illness, so he replaces Will Buckley who drops to the bench. Fresh from his first senior England call up, Lee Cattermole starts in the heart of midfield.
Sunderland (4-3-3): Mannone; Vergini, Brown, O'Shea, Van Aaanholt; Cattermole, Rodwell, Larsson; Johnson, Wickham, Fletcher
Subs: Pantilimon, Jones, Bridcutt, Gomez, Buckley, Giaccherini, Altidore
Meanwhile Harry Redknapp has ditched the 3-5-2 system with which QPR have started the season, switching to a 4-3-3 and making three changes from the side that were hammered at White Hart Lane last Sunday. Richard Dunne is deemed too slow, and is replaced by speed demon Clint Hill, while Junior Hoilett comes in for Traore. Loic Remy looks set to be out of the door at Loftus Road, and so is replaced by former workhouse orphan Charlie Austin.
QPR (4-3-3): Green; Hill, Caulker, Ferdinand, Isla; Fer, Barton, Mutch; Phillips, Hoilett, Austin
Subs: Murphy, Dunne, Traore, Onuoha, Henry, Taarabt, Zamora
