With Sunderland still trying to sign Marcos Alonso following the Spanish left back's impressive loan spell, the 23-year-old's father and agent, and ex-Atletico Madrid and Barcelona player, Marcos Alonso Sr. has given an interview to clarify his son's future.
As it stands, Alonso will be reporting back to Fiorentina for pre-season training next week, with the player's future in the hands of his club;
This coming June 7, he will be in the city to respond to the call of the club and to wear the jersey of Fiorentina.
Marcos, having played for six months without missing a game, is excited and very ready to be at the disposal of his coach.
It's now up to Fiorentina to make a decision.
Asked whether there is any truth in the rumours of his son being involved in a swap deal with Modibo Diakite, Alonso Sr. explained;
Right now we only know that he was summoned by the company to start preparing and he still has a two-year contract with the company of Della Valle [Fiorentina's owner].
He starts with determination, but I repeat: Fiorentina will decide, we are at their disposal.
As Fiorentina's head coach Vicenzo Montella was believed to want to take a look at the progress Alonso made while on-loan at Sunderland before deciding his future, Gus Poyet may need to be patient in his pursuit of the left back.
