Report: Striker 'Likely To Join Sunderland'?

Sunderland are reportedly keen on Uruguayan striker Leandro Rodriguez, with the player 'likely to join in the future'.

Gus Poyet is reportedly keen for Sunderland to sign CA River Plate striker Leandro Rodriguez and according to the Uruguayan club's president, Alvaro Silva,  the striker is likely to join Sunderland in the winter transfer window;

Gustavo Poyet called me when he was in Montevideo and asked me about Leandro Rodríguez, he told me 'I need a player of his kind for Sunderland'.

However, the club's foreign quota does not allow you to take now so surely done in December, although there are other options for the player.

We believe you will stay with us until December and then go to England.

The 21-year-old striker has only made 50 appearances for River Plate, scoring 10 goals but with Sunderland releasing a number of players from the development squad over the summer, leaving Mikael Mandron as the only recognised striker in the u21's, and  Connor Wickham's future up in the air while the club try to persuade him to sign a new contract, as well as the imminent departures of Danny Graham and Ignacio Scocco, the first team striker pool may also soon be depleted.

You can take a look at the player in action below, with the obligatory YouTube compilation;
