Report: Sunderland Bid To Bring Back Loan Star

Are Sunderland allowed to sign good left backs on permanent deals now? Is that a thing now? We may be about to find out.

Sunderland have submitted a 'formal offer' to bring Marcos Alonso back to Sunderland on a permanent deal and the Spaniard has told Fiorentina he wants the move, according to Sky Sports News.

The left back was a huge hit on Wearside last season after a January loan move, making massive contributions to both the successful Premier League survival bid and run to the League Cup final. Securing him on a permanent basis has been one of Gus Poyet's top summer priorities, with the Sunderland coach recently telling Spanish newspaper Marca that he was 'doing everything he could' to make the move happen.

Mobido Diakite, who went on loan in the opposite direction, has been suggested as a possible make-weight in any deal, though it's unclear if that will be happening. In fact, very few details are out there at all at this stage.

Hopefully there is plenty in this story. Sunderland have been making specific efforts to keep information coming out of the club regarding transfers pretty tight this summer, so this being stated pretty matter-of-factly by someone like SSN is probably significant.

Anyway, we'll keep this story updated as best we can.
