Agent Gives Update On Midfielder's Future

Sebastian Larsson's agent has spoken out about his client's future and has confirmed that Sunderland want to keep the midfielder.

Seb Larsson's Sunderland future is still in the balance, with Gus Poyet wanting to keep the Swede at the club but new clubs being linked with the soon-to-be out of contract midfielder, it seems less and less likely that his future will be at the Stadium of Light with every passing day.

His agent Per Jonsson has given an update on Larsson's future to Swedish newspaper Expressen, where he played down suggestions that Italian side Napoli were interested in his client's services;

It is claimed as much [that Napoli are interested].

There is no truth in it, they've probably been and looked at him, but clubs are looking at players all the time. I know nothing about that in any case, and I think that we would have heard something

Jonsson went on to explain that Larsson, who has recently been linked with moves to Stoke and Hull, would prefer to remain in England;

There is of course a main track. Sebastian loves England and has always done. He has not wanted to move from there before.

He then confirmed Sunderland still hope to re-sign the midfielder but that he wants Larsson's future to be decided one way or another before the start of the upcoming World Cup;

Yes, I can say that it is true. They have suggested it and we'll see what they come back with.

We want to be clear with his future relatively soon. Preferably before the World Cup, if possible.

Hopefully Larsson can be persuaded to sign a new contract, he showed during the end of season run in how vital he can be when he plays well and with so many players out of contract or coming to the end of their loan deals, should he sign the new contract, it will be one less player we need to worry about replacing.
