Wes Brown has backed Vito Mannone to bounce back quickly after the Italian's late blunder cost Sunderland two precious points at Manchester City.
The goalkeeper palmed a tame Samir Nasri shot into the net after a Connor Wickham brace had put the Black Cats on the verge of an unlikely yet massive victory. Brown insists that it shouldn't be held against the stopper, though, especially considering his contribution over the course of the season.
He told safc.com:
Vito was really down in the dressing room after the game.
But we've all been over to him and tried to rally him around. We still need him and he's been fantastic for us all season.
I'm sure Vito will be fine - it's happened to us a lot this season - It was me last week and the quicker you get over it the better.
I suppose the last sentence really hammers home the desperation of this season. It has happened a lot to us this season. In fact, I can't remember a more self-destructive season and Sunderland are masters at it.
Mannone is the least of the club's worries though. Granted, it was a shocker of a mistake which only looks worse every time you watch it, but even the top goalkeepers make them. If you're looking for a perfectly infallible goalkeeper, you're in for a life of disappointment.
