Sunderland have recalled striker Connor Wickham from loan at Leeds United as Gus Poyet becomes increasingly desperate for attacking options.
Wickham has had a previous loan spell this season cut short at Sheffield Wednesday before being farmed out to Leeds where he has been starting regularly for the Whites.
Manager Brian McDermott said today;
We're disappointed to lose Connor, but I'd like to thank Gus for allowing him to come here. He has done extremely well for us, and we wish him well for the future.
It's likely that Wickham will be put straight into action against Liverpool this midweek, with Jozy Altidore offering yet another miserable performance against Norwich City at the weekend and Fabio Borini unavailable to face his parent club.
Nacho Scocco is also an option of course, but he has also been rather anonymous in almost every game he's played so far in his short Sunderland career to date.
At this stage it almost matters little who comes in. We could play all our strikers and they'd struggle to hit a cow's arse with a banjo.
