Roker Riches: Our Tips For Norwich

Sunderland travel to Norfolk, the Wales of the East, for another one of those must-win games. Here's where we're placing our money.

Jan Kruger
Pundit Last Week's Profit/Loss Current Balance
Stephen Goldsmith N/A £69.00
Luke Bowley -£4.00 £62.66
Simon Walsh -£7.00 £58.00
Dave Boyle -£10.00 £15.00
Nick Holden N/A £7.62
Karl Jones N/A £0
Craig Clark N/A -£6.70

Well, we all did pretty poorly last week. I won some money predicting their to be less than 1.5 goals in our match with Palace, and what a surprise when that bet came up. However, I then lot all of it and more when Elche could only draw with bottom side Real Betis in Spain. Let's see if we have better luck this weekend:

Simon Walsh

Not sure why I'm persisting as it seems I'd be better off using the tactic of not participating. Look at the leader-board for flip's sake... Anyway, for some reason I am, and I don't see things going well for us this weekend. Is this a double-bluff in the hope because I'm terrible at this and predicting a Norwich win, Sunderland will win? No. I just think we're done now.

Elsewhere I'm going for wins for Brighton, Aston Villa and Leeds.

  • Norwich Win By 2 Goals - 6/1 - £2 Stake
  • Brighton, Aston Villa and Leeds all to win - 8/1 - £2 Stake

David Boyle

We're really into the business end of the season now, with each passing game having more and more pressure piled upon it.

Wes Brown admitted this week that the team find playing away from home is a release from the "pressure" of performing at the Stadium of Light and while this is a concern given the importance that has been put on our remaining home fixtures, it bodes well for a punt on this weekend's game. So Wesley, you and the lads enjoy playing away from the Stadium of Light eh? Fine, prove it and win on Saturday at odds of 14/5.

Away from Sunderland I fancy a Premier League treble with Everton, Hull and Newcastle all winning their respective home fixtures.

  • Sunderland to win - 14/5 - £2.50 Stake
  • Everton, Hull and Newcastle to win - 7/1 - £2.50 Stake

Nick Holden

Last week was labelled as a "must-win" fixture and we managed to draw it, which piles even more pressure on the game down at Norwich. However at the moment we seem to be better off away from home, at least in the games against teams around us in the table. So I'm actually cautiously optimistic going into this game, I fancy us to win it 2-1.

Elsewhere this weekend sees El Clasico in Spain. Real Madrid are starting to look ominously good both in Spain and Europe, and despite their comfortable win over Manchester City and a 7 goal thumping of Osassuna Barcelona aren't looking up to the standards of old. For Real Gareth Bale is enjoying a very productive first season and Cristiano Ronaldo is maintaining his ludicrously high levels of performance, but I'm going to back Karim Benzema to bag the first goal against Barca. The Frenchman is re-capturing his best form at the ideal time for both club and country, and I can see him kicking off a glut of goals.

  • Sunderland to beat Norwich 2-1 - 12/1 - £2
  • Real Madrid vs Barcelona: Karim Benzema first goal-scorer - 11/2 - £2

Luke Bowley

Always thought this weekend's game was going to be more vital than last weekend against Palace, and also can't help but feel that whoever loses this one will go down. Norwich generally don't concede much against teams around them, and this is perhaps a game where Hughton will look at the wider picture, and be happy with a point. Given our trouble in breaking teams down, this doesn't bode well for us, and it's a game we absolutely have to win. The only thing that gives me hopes is the possibility of Fabio Borini playing down the middle and that Joseph Yobo was dreadful against Southampton last week. However, the bet I'm making is very much one out of hope, rather than out of any analysis.

Elsewhere, there's a couple of teams playing away from home that are undervalued this weekend. In Spain Real Sociedad are 5/4 to beat struggling Almeria, while close to home promotion chasing Burnley are also 5/4 to beat Charlton. I'll go with Real Sociedad, for no particular reason.

  • Fabio Borini to score and Sunderland to win - 7/1 - £3 stake
  • Real Sociedad to beat Almeria - 5/4 - £10 stake
