Lee Congerton's first challenge having been installed as Sunderland's new Sporting Director appears to be building a brand new staff of trusted scouts.
With Massimo Mirabelli and Valentino Angleloni out the door, it appears that the rest of the Italian staff assembled by Roberto De Fanti are also out the door according to today's Sunderland Echo.
The paper also throws the name of Fulham's Head of Rectuitment into the mix as potential new Chief Scout at the club, Barry Simmonds.
Little is known about Simmonds other than he was formerly the Sporting Director at a few A-League clubs, whilst also it appears he has good connections across the globe with Fulham's multi-cultural (albeit struggling) team.
Simmonds certainly appears to be a quiet figure, although an endorsement on his LinkedIn page (I know, struggling here) suggests that maybe further signings to come will be from Scandinavia. Fulham currently have seven players from the region on their books;
Barry has the most detailed and wide knowledge of Scandinavian footballers I have ever come across.
And that's about it. I'd expect Simmonds to come in. The Echo wouldn't throw this name out there with no valid reason or any sort of evidence to say otherwise.
This is one to keep an eye on as Lee Congerton goes about building a new staff at the Stadium Of Light.
