With Roy Hodgson in attendance for today's crucial home game with Hull City to cast an eye over Adam Johnson, Gus Poyet has urged the England manager to consider Jack Colback too.
After possibly his best game in a Sunderland shirt in the 3-0 win against Newcastle United last weekend, where he scored one and was involved in the other two goals, Poyet believes Colback may be a surprise contender for England's World Cup squad;
There's always one that goes to the World Cup that no one expects,
Jack's position is the one ahead of the central midfielder. He's got the legs, he presses and he passes the ball. He cares a lot about the ball which people don't always see.
Now he's started to make the extra runs into the box which is great for us because, with our system, we need people pressing.
So who knows what might happen now.
Poyet then had a little dig at Martin O'Neill and Paolo Di Canio, who both regularly picked the midfielder at left back, for continually playing the 24-year-old out of position;
It's not too difficult to play someone in his best position, is it?
Hopefully Colback will take encouragement from Poyet's praise and replicate last week's performance against Newcastle, as if he does he will be sure to make an impression on the onlooking England manager.
