Vito Mannone has been enjoying a magnificent season for Sunderland.
Having come to the club a bit of a mystery, even derided in some quarters for being little more than the fourth choice 'keeper at Arsenal, some questioned why we even brought him in. He's certainly made those fans swallow down some humble pie, and now the stats prove it.
Website 101 Great Goals put up a nice graphic showing that the Italian has proven to be among the leagues best this season;
Now of course it's natural that the 'keepers have the most work to do, and thus make more saves than those towards the top of the league.
These numbers are also backed up on other websites such as the popular stats site Squawka, who have Mannone ranked second behind his former teammate Wojciech Szczesny. Over on the similar WhoScored site, Mannone ranks with a very high 7.29 rating.
We do have a pretty decent history with goalkeepers. Let's just hope we can hang on to this one as it's been reported that Italian giants AC Milan are keeping (excuse the pun) tabs on Mannone.
