Johnson Eyeing World Cup After Derby Win

Adam Johnson hopes his recent form will reap a return to the England fold.

Adam Johnson scored yet again for Sunderland today in the Tyne-Wear derby, and he's hoping he's done enough to warrant a recall to the England squad.

Speaking after the game, Johnson told reporters;

Of course I have missed it (playing for England). It's the best thing of all to play for England. A few months ago I didn't think I had a chance, but maybe I do now. It's a good time to do it.

Johnson has been arguably in the best form of his career of the past two months, and he must surely come into the reckoning for England's next game against Denmark at Wembley in March.

If Johnson can keep up his great form too, there's every chance he'll be on the plane to Rio if Roy Hodgson is as good as his word and is picking players on form and not reputation.

If Johnson doesn't get at least a call up (for the fore mentioned Denmark match) and is fit, it will be an absolute travesty.
