It's literally only just December, but there seems to be almost daily rumours linking players with a January move to Sunderland.
There have been multiple reports claiming Chelsea are unhappy with the lack of game time Christian Atsu is getting on loan at Everton and want to recall the Ghanaian and loan him to Sunderland instead.
The Black Cats were strongly linked with the pacey winger in the summer, but Gus Poyet strongly dismissed the speculation, so it seems, on the face of it at least, unlikely a deal will be done there. You never know, though.
Another man linked is Ajax midfielder Lasse Schöne. The Danish midfielder is believed to be available on the cheap in January due to a contract dispute, and the Mirror claim Sunderland are looking to take advantage.
It's certainly an interesting link. Schöne is a versatile midfield player with very good technical ability and a really cute awareness of runners around him. You could see him slotting into a Gus Poyet system and style very easily, and in an interview in The Times Lee Congerton said he was visiting Holland on business quite often, so it's reasonable to assume it's a market Sunderland are really looking at.
Time will tell, I guess. There certainly won't be a shortage of rumours between now and February.
