Gus Poyet makes four changes to the side that was beaten 2-0 to Arsenal last time out.

The Black Cats boss hands a Premier League debut to Costel Pantilimon who will replace last season's Player of the Year Vito Mannone in the Sunderland goal.

Elsewhere, Anthony Reveillere also debuts replacing Wes Brown in the Sunderland defence, while Jordi Gomez and Connor Wickham also return to the side replacing Jack Rodwell and Adam Johnson respectively.

Sunderland (4-1-4-1): Pantilimon; Reveillere, O'Shea, Vergini, Van Aanholt; Cattermole, Larsson, Gomez, Buckley, Wickham; Fletcher.

Subs: Mannone, Brown, Bridcutt, Johnson, Mavrias, Graham, Altidore

Crystal Palace (4-2-3-1): Speroni; Kelly, Dann , Hangeland, Ward; Ledley, Jedinak; Zaha, Chamakh, Bolasie; Chamakah, Campbell.

Subs: Hennessy, Mariappa, Bannan, McCarther, Puncheon, Gayle, Doyle

Crystal Palace welcome back Scott Dann, the 27-year-old returns from a knee injury  to partner Brede Hangeland in the heart of defence.

James McCarthur has also passed a late fitness test, but can only manage a place among the substitutes.

Damian Delaney has served a one-match ban for a sending off against Chelsea, but the defender has not been included in Neil Warnock's match-day squad.

Former Sunderland striker Frazier Campbell leads the line for the Eagles.
