Sunderland 0-0 Chelsea: Player Ratings

Sunderland battled and scrapped to a brilliant draw. We rate those who took part.

Costel Pantilimon - 8

Commanded his box as a goalkeeper his size should, and safe hands when needed.

Santiago Vergini - 8

Caught out a couple of times but generally solid and came closest to scoring.

Wes Brown - 9

Colossal. One of his best games for Sunderland. If only he could do it every week.

John O'Shea - 9

Outstanding leadership throughout and brilliant in the air. Properly made Diego Costa lose his rag, which was funny.

Anthony Reveillere - 8

Solid as a rock. Has he looked even remotely ruffled in his Sunderland career yet? If he has, I missed it.

Lee Cattermole - 10

Best player on the pitch. Against Chelsea. Enough said.

Jack Rodwell - 8

Very competitive and an important player early on.

Seb Larsson - 9

Industrious and energetic. A constant pain in Chelsea's backside. Brilliant performance.

Adam Johnson - 8

Provided quality to go with his team-mate's industry and never shirked defensive duties.

Connor Wickham - 9

His best all-round game for Sunderland? Certainly on the left wing. Outstanding throughout.

Steven Fletcher - 8

Held the ball up with plenty of quality and provided a strong outlet.

Jordi Gomez (Sub) - 7

Offered plenty on the ball and was a strong influence in the closing stages.

Jozy Altidore (Sub) - 8

He really made things happen. Had a very positive impact off the bench.

Man Of The Match: Lee Cattermole

What a performance. I don't know which Lee Cattermole, though, as there seemed to be about twenty of him on the pitch. He was simply immaculate.
