There were high hopes for Cabral at the beginning of the season after he signed on a Bosman free transfer from Swiss side Basel.

After impressive performances against Tottenham in the Barclays Asia Trophy and against Fulham on the first day of the season. Since then he disappointed against MK Dons in the Capital One Cup and then disappeared from first team contention, barring the occasional appearance as an unused substitute, amid rumours of a bad attitude.

Now reports suggest his disappointing spell on Wearside is about to come to an end with a move to Serie A side Genoa. According to reports in Italy, Cabral is very close to signing for the Italian side on loan with a view to a permanent deal, with Genoa hoping to beat Watford to his signing.

The rumoured deal for Cabral comes hot on the heels of Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri claiming Verona have contacted Sunderland over a possible deal for French central defender Modibo Diakite.

It's also been reported that Spanish side Hercules have targeted Valentin Roberge, thanks to their manager, Quique Hernandez, being a fan of the French defender since they worked together at Greek side Aris.

With Gus Poyet recently speaking of his frustration with the current squad at his disposal, it would appear the overhaul he has asked for may be imminent.
