Official: Vaughan To Remain At Forest

The deadwood continues to drift away...

The departures at Sunderland just keep on coming, David Vaughan, who has been away for most of the season on loan anyway, is to extend his spell at Nottingham Forest.

We don't really know if it's a loan or a full transfer with a short-term contract, but both clubs have confirmed that the Welshman will stay in the Midlands for the rest of the season. Then, of course, his contract expires so it is very much the end of his Sunderland career. So the actual details are quite irrelevant really.

It continues the deadline day trend of attempting to strip the deadwood from the wage bill. Mobido Diakite has left already, and you wouldn't rule out more departures later on. Whether it is designed to make room for a further addition, remains to be seen.

I suspect that Vaughan will be well-remembered by most Sunderland fans. He scored three memorable spectacular strikes, including a stunner in the derby. A good little player, no question, but one who never really made himself a regular.

Cheers David.
