Although we only completed the signing of Nacho Scocco yesterday, press reports today suggest Sunderland may yet make a £5m bid for Ross McCormack of Leeds United.
According to the report in the Daily Mail, the bid for McCormack would be financed by the possible sales of Lee Cattermole and/or Steven Fletcher. Both players have been linked with a move to Stoke City but Fletcher has also been linked with a move to Serie A side Livorno and Scottish champions Celtic. While Liam Bridcutt's impending arrival may see Cattermole pushed out of the side, it has also been reported that he will now remain at the Stadium of Light this season.
Danny Graham is a player who looks more likely to move on today, with Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough battling it out to sign the Sunderland flop on loan. Graham is currently on loan at Hull City but has falled down the pecking order after their double signing of Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic. Boro boss Aitor Karanka said of Graham;
I know Danny [Graham] because he is a player who played here at the academy and the first team a few times. But I don't want to speak about individual players.
We are working on several names. It is one striker we want. If two or three arrive then that is better for me!
Finally, Middlesbrough are also thought to have made a late enquiry for Connor Wickham. The striker who was recently recalled from a loan at Sheffield Wednesday may also make a loan move before the window closes tonight.
