Liam Bridcutt is reportedly headed north for his Sunderland medical after a fee in the region of £3m was agreed with Brighton for the midfielder.

The Scotland international has been Sunderland's top midfield target all summer. In fact, ever since Gus Poyet's arrival on Wearside, his former Brighton pet-project Bridcutt following him has seemed utterly inevitable.

Now, with just two days left before the transfer deadline passes, Poyet looks to have finally got his man and you'd expect the 24-year-old to be installed at the base of the Sunderland midfield for the foreseeable future.

The report comes from Telegraph journalist John Percy, who is generally as reliable as they come. He also suggests that the deal is expected to trigger a Stoke offer for Lee Cattermole. Whether than comes to pass or the Sunderland are receptive to it remains to be seen, but Percy is very well-connected in the Midlands so it probably has substance.

All seems to be happening, then. Looks like it could be a busy last couple of days of the transfer window for Sunderland.
