If Sunderland are to bring in a new striker to spearhead their survival bid this month, it appears unlikely that it will be Internacional's Nacho Scocco.
There were reports in The Mirror suggesting Sunderland could revive reported summer interest in the the Argentinian, who has struggled for form and goals since moving to Brazilian football. Meanwhile, the player himself has expressed his desire to move and told Olé that he 'will not close the door on anyone'.
But it is understood that, at this moment in time, the possibility of signing Scocco has not been extensively discussed by Sunderland. It all seems to have all the hallmarks of a player's representatives 'leaking' an exaggerated story to try and make the player's desire to leave known.
Things could change, of course. You can never truly rule anything out in the madcap world of January in football, especially when clubs find themselves in desperate situations.
Perhaps one to still keep an eye on, though, especially if the right kind of deal can be found.
