Sunderland 1-0 Kidderminster Harriers: Player Ratings

Here's our (my) ratings from today. Some of you will agree, some won't.

Michael Regan

Oscar Ustari - 6

Had little to do yet caught and distributed confidently. It's not really his fault he had no shots to save.

Ondrej Celustka - 5

Missed his first opportunity to stake a place in the side for the final. Wasteful in possession as always.

Valentin Roberge - 6

Not sure where the desire comes from for him to play left back for us. Coped. Unremarkable.

Modibo Diakite - 6

Was solid enough but untroubled. Hard to give these players less than 6 when they performed to the minimum expected standard.

Santiago Vergini - 6

As above.

Lee Cattermole - 7

He'd have probably got an 8 if he hadn't have allowed a couple passes to go ridiculously astray. That may seem pedantic but it's relevant when employed in that pivotal deep-lying role.

El Hadji Ba - 6

Was ok. Thought he tried a bit too hard at times, though he certainly looks like he's more than capable of having a decent future here.

Seb Larsson - 6

Missed his first opportunity to stake a place in the side for the final.

Charis Mavrias - 6

Yeah he scored, and he was keen to be proactive. But, essentially, he wasn't any better than some of those around him who failed to get out of second gear.

Emanuele Giaccherini - 6

Missed his first opportunity to stake a place in the side for the final.

Jozy Altidore - 5

Missed his first opportunity to stake a place in the side for the final.

Jack Colback - 6

Coasted through the game without bothering himself too much.

Craig Gardner - 6

Missed his first opportunity to stake a place in the side for the final.

Fabio Borini - 6

Looked quite lively in spells. Coasted through the game safe in the knowledge he has a starting place to lose.

Man of the match - Lee Cattermole

Extremely fortunate to come out with a man of the match after an average performance. He gave away possession cheaply at times and I feel this will be his undoing in the long term under Poyet. That said, he organized his team mates, constantly looked for the ball and applied himself in a manner that suggested this was more than just a training practice to him.
