Due to all the speculation over Liam Bridcutt, it's sort of been lost in the shuffle that we also bid for his Brighton teammate Will Buckley, with a bid of around £1m being rejected for the winger.
It's thought that Gus Poyet is still interested in the winger but it looks like we may have competition in the form of Crystal Palace. According to the Evening Standard, Tony Pulis is hoping to snatch Buckley from under Sunderland's nose, with a bid of around £2m believed to be enough to tempt Brighton to sell.
The report also claims that while the player would be happy to remain at the Amex Stadium, unlike Bridcutt who handed in a transfer request, the 24-year-old would be open in a move to a Premier League side.
Buckley is expected to return from an injury he picked up in a Championship game at Blackpool, in this weekend's FA Cup game at Port Vale and his return to fitness could trigger a renewed effort from Sunderland to beat off the interest from Palace.
