Confirmed: Manchester United Captain To Miss Semi Final

Sunderland's League Cup opponents have been dealt a blow.

Nemanja Vidic will miss Manchester United's League Cup semi final with Sunderland after seeing his appeal over his red card against Chelsea fail.

The FA have confirmed the three match suspension.

It will come as a boost to Sunderland - especially since Vidic is United's most dominant player from set pieces in either box. However, it still doesn't exactly make it easy, does it.

Wayne Rooney has a chance to make the line-up though having trained this week. Whether or not David Moyes will choose to risk him from the start given their faltering league campaign is another matter, of course.

Robin van Persie doesn't look all that close to a return at the moment, but you never know how honest managers are being about these things.

On the Sunderland side of things, Steven Fletcher should be available following injury and new signings Oscar Ustari and Santiago Vergini are expected to be in the squad.
