Report: Goalkeeper Set To Sign

Reports in Spain claim Sunderland's search for a goalkeeper is about to come to an end with the signing of an Argentinian international.

With Keiren Westwood recently undergoing shoulder surgery and only youngsters Joel Dixon and Jordan Pickford as cover for the impressive Vito Mannone, Sunderland have been scouring the world for goalkeeping cover. Despite being linked with the likes of Mariano Andujar and Julio Cesar, it appears as if Almeria's Oscar Ustari is the man Gus Poyet wants to bring to the club.

We told you last week how the club had made a one year contract offer to Ustari but faced competition from Penarol of Uruguay, well according to reports in Spain it looks as if Sunderland have won the race for the twice-capped Argentinian international.

Ustari has reportedly negotiated his release from the Andalusian club after only featuring three times this season, all within the last month in the Copa Del Rey. The 27-year-old only signed for the Spanish side in the summer from Boca Juniors.

Poyet admitted earlier in the month that he liked the style of South American goalkeepers, so our prospective new signing being from Argentina will hardly be a surprise. Despite only having two caps for Argentina, Ustari won't need a work permit as he has an Italian passport.
