Sunderland don't seem to have had much luck this season and that seems to have been typified by reports coming out of Turkey this morning which claim a deal had been struck for Portuguese sensation Bruma, only for the player to suffer a serious knee injury which will keep him out for the rest of the season.
According to the report, Sunderland had agreed to sign the 19-year-old winger on loan until the end of the season (with an option to make the move permanent for €17m), due in part to the foreign quota in Turkish football limiting his appearances, when he suffered the knee injury in a cup game against Tokatspor. Roberto Mancini had given his blessing to the transfer and the player was preparing to go to England when he ruptured his ligaments.
This will obviously be a huge blow to a player who was hoping to go to the World Cup in the summer and a big blow to Sunderland who would have pulled off a huge coup had they signed the exciting winger who has been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG all reportedly made bids in the summer before he signed for Turkish giants Galatasaray.
