Steven Fletcher To Miss At Least A Month

Kevin Ball confirmed today that star striker Steven Fletcher will miss between four and six weeks through injury after damaging his shoulder at West Bromwich Albion last Saturday.

Despite the news meaning the Black Cats will be without their best forward for at least a month, it is something of a boost to the club, given that initial fears suggested the Scottish international may be missing for a few months.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference today, interim head coach Kevin Ball confirmed:

The news is better than we feared.

It is four to six weeks which is good news for us. I've been downstairs and Steven has a smile on his face; albeit he realises that it's four to six weeks.

Hopefully he'll be back within that time and he'll be a great addition to the squad.

The news means that Fletcher will certainly miss the two upcoming home games against Liverpool and Manchester United and, more than likely, the trip to Swansea City on October 19.

Sunderland will no doubt hope the injury will have healed by October 27, when they welcome - in the loosest sense of the word - neighbours Newcastle United to the Stadium of Light.
