The draw for the second round of this seasons Capital One Cup has been made and Sunderland will get their cup campaign underway against MK Dons at the Stadium of Light. The fixture will take place during the week commencing Monday 26th August.
The two clubs faced each other at the third round stage of last season's competition, with the Wearsiders running out 2-0 winners at Stadium mk, thanks to goals from Craig Gardner and the recently departed James McClean. That was the only meeting between the two clubs during the Milton Keynes outfit's short history. Our opponents overcame Northampton Town to make it to this stage.
This is the first season in which the 53-year old cup competition has used seeded teams. Sunderland, by virtue of being a Premier League side, were on the the 25 clubs seeded, and so could only have ever been drawn against one of the 25 unseeded teams from lower divisions. The idea is, of course, that it allows for a greater chance of a 'cup shock', but it also means that the Black Cats have an better chance of progression than they might have had in recent years.
