Sunderland have completed the signing of AZ Alkmaar striker Jozy Altidore on a 4 year deal. Altidore arrived on Wearside yesterday morning to complete a medical at the clubs training ground after an agreement over a fee and personal terms was reached over the previous few days, and his work permit has now been rubber-stamped.

The US international, who has scored an impressive 51 goals in 93 games over two season for AZ, should offer some much needed strength and power to Sunderland's attack, and the prospect of Fletcher-Altidore frontline is one that will excite fans going into the new season.

The ease at which negotiations have been reached will certainly please Di Canio with Altidore, highly rated by those in Dutch and US football, having been one of his top transfer targets this summer.

With the American not part of his country's squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup, he is now expected to link up with his new teammates at the pre-season training camp in Italy within the next 24 hours.
