Cats Return With Second Striker Offer

Having seen one bid for Jozy Altidore turned down, it seems the powers that be remained resolved to bringing him to Sunderland in the near future.

Sunderland have returned with a second offer for top striker target Jozy Altidore after their initial offer was rebuffed earlier this week.

No details have emerged with regard the size of the bid or its chances of success, but it appears that negotiations for the AZ Alkmaar man are ongoing, with the Dutch club's Director of Football confirming:

We've rejected one offer [from Sunderland], but we are still talking with them.

It is becoming quite apparent at this stage that Paolo Di Canio and co. are determined to bring the 23-year-old American international to Wearside this summer as a key component of a revamped Black Cats attack.

Despite enjoying a prolific spell in the the Netherlands, where he has bagged 51 goals in 93 games over the last two years in all competitions, Altidore himself has said he is very keen to return to the Premier League and recently declared himself open to offers to leave the Eredivise.

This promises to be the kind of story that is sure to rumble on until Sunderland eventually get their man given there looks to be a genuine willingness from all three parties to make it happen. Keep your eye on it, or at least allow us to do it for you!

Enjoy a (slightly hastily titled) video of him below.
