Player Of The Last Ten Years Poll, Round Two: Bolo Zenden Vs Djibril Cisse

Round two kicks off in style as Bolo Zenden takes on Djibril Cisse to see who can make it through to the quarter finals. Dancing Dutchmen or Flamboyant Frenchmen? Pick your poison...

Bolo Zenden

Ahem.

Oh, what? I'm not allowed to just post that video and walk victoriously off into the distance?

Right, fine. But haway, look at him - who couldn't love this man?

It's hard to give Bolo Zenden a more glowing reference than I did in the first round of this competition, so I'll just reiterate quite how classy the midfielder was. His vast CV speaks for itself, as does over half a century of caps (and seven goals) for Holland.

It wasn't Zenden's fault he was criminally underused during his time on Wearside.

Djibril Cisse

Words do not suffice for a man like Cisse. Even this video doesn't really do him justice but it does just about sum him up. I mean, just watch it. What can I say that this goal against the Mags on their patch doesn't? It's all there; the opportunism, the goal, the celebration.

Quite simply, Cisse is one of the coolest men to wear the red and white stripes, from his hairstyles to his goals, he exuded class. Although he was only a loanee, he was a marquee signing too, on another level to the type of player we had grown accustomed to on Wearside.

It's only a shame Ricky Sbragia was in charge for much of Cisse's time here. The dour Scotsman transformed us into one of the most negative teams in the league. Yes we survived, but with a better manager, there is absolutely no doubt Cisse would have scored even more goals. (CC)
