Simon Mignolet - 8
Was our saviour once again. A hard fought draw would have been a disastrous defeat without him and was extremely unlucky to see one world class save land at the feet of Jason Puncheon for the equalising goal.
Phil Bardsley - 5
This was a game which summed up Bardsley's Sunderland career. Could have been the match-winner when his deflected shot gave us the lead but Southampton exposed his poor positional play for the equaliser.
John O'Shea - 6
A solid performance by the captain, threw himself in the way of Southampton shots and kept Lambert relatively quiet.
Carlos Cuellar - 4
Looked shaky throughout, conceded possession too easily and one sloppy bit of play almost let Southampton in on goal.
Danny Rose - 6
Possibly could have done better for the Southampton goal but had another fine game in what was possibly his last for the club. Should have signed off with an assist but saw his cross wasted by Graham.
James McClean - 3
Started on the right and may well have given the ball away every time it came to him in that position. Improved a little when moved to the left but rightly substituted at half-time.
Alfred N'Diaye - 8
Got stuck into the Southampton midfield, despite being outnumbered, and was arguably our biggest threat going forward.
Sebastian Larsson - 5
A quiet game from the Swede, struggled to influence the game and wasted a good opportunity in the first half when his tame shot from the edge of the box was easily blocked.
Jack Colback - 6
An industrious performance by our Mr.Versatile. Worked his socks off despite being out of position again.
Adam Johnson - 6
Struggled to make an impact but should have scored from an O'Shea knock down at a first half corner, then set up Phil Bardsley for the goal.
Danny Graham - 3
Another Sunderland game under Di Canio and another performance from Danny Graham that leaves us saying 'At least he is working hard'. Barely troubled the opposing central defenders and missed his one good opportunity when he took an air-shot after a good cross by Rose.
Connor Wickham - 5
Came on at half-time and showed no ill-effects from his calf injury. Always tried to make something happen, unfortunately without success.
David Vaughan - 5
Came on for 20 minutes but was as ineffectual as Larsson.
Man Of The Match - Simon Mignolet
N'Diaye ran Mignolet close for Man Of The Match but without Mignolet's heroics we would have lost. His point blank save from Puncheon was world class, he should consider himself unlucky that such a save was in vain as Puncheon stabbed home the rebound. Without doubt our player of the season.
We'll have a whole lot more over the next few days, so stick around in our Match Stream, HERE.
