Week Thirty-Three Recap

A big win for Karl saw him leap frog myself into second place having had the balls or foresight to back a Sunderland victory at St. James'. My big money gamble to try and catch Luke at the top of the table backfired magnificently as somehow Chiek Tiote managed to escape the referee's notebook but then again he was completely anonymous - stupid Mag.

Anyway, everything else went as usual; Luke added a few quid to his tally, Walshy lost a few more quid and Chris is still missing in action, presumed drunk in a gutter.

On to this week's selections!

David Boyle

Having grafted his balls of at St. James' Park and presumably won around many doubters in the process I reckon this weekend could well see Danny Graham break his duck for the club. Everton will prove to be a tough cookie to break down but Graham gave St*v*n T*yl*r a torrid time on Sunday and I hope to see more of the same and will have a few quid on the Geordie at anytime goalscorer.

Elsewhere I'm going to stick with the Premier League and back Newcastle to bounce back with an away win at West Brom. The Baggies look now to be coasting to the end of the season with their Premier League status under no threat whatsoever and are comfortably engulfed in the fuzzy warmth of mid-table mediocrity. The Mags on the other hand will surely be hurting and desperate to move themselves away from the drop.

Given that Sunderland are a relatively big price for a home team (I know, it's Everton) the goal scorer markets are wide open. Danny Graham put in his best Sunderland performance to date last time out and has spoken of his ease at Paolo Di Canio's attacking style. A belated first goal for the club is certainly due.

Elsewhere we'll try to keep it simple this week. Liverpool have been quite stuttery of late - losing to Southampton and drawing against Reading and West Ham - and, frankly, Chelsea are a better side. In Serie A, leaders Juventus host Milan who still need to secure a Champions League place for next season. With 11 points between the Old Lady and second-placed Napoli, Milan's need for points is greater. The two teams match up quite evenly on paper, yet the bookmakers have Milan at a tempting 4/1, which I'll take to complete my double.

With one hoodoo put to bed on Sunday against the Mags, it's time for Paolo Di Canio to work his magic against our ultimate bogey team Everton this weekend. And why not? The Lads must not be complacent and there is absolutely no way the Italian will allow them to be, proven by his comments after the derby. One man who has gotten forward to greater effect since Di Canio's arrival has been Alfred N'Diaye. His battle with Fellaini is likely to be key. If he comes out on top, we'll have a great chance of winning. I can't be anything but positive after Sunday so I'm going for big Alf to score in a win over the Toffees.

Elsewhere I'm going for Bayern to keep up winning ways at Hannover and Napoli to beat Cagliari at home. The Partenopei have lost just once at home this season and should have too much for the visitors at the San Paolo

Well I bombed out last week, but really at this stage following such a momentous day, who gives one? I certainly don't. And I'll take a little bit of a moral victory since several Mags SHOULD have been sent off. In my mind. Mainly just because they're Mags.

Anyway, on to this week's Sunderland stab in the dark and I'm going for the Paolo Di Canio bandwagon to keep in rolling with a win. I'm not confident enough to say what the score will be, but a win at 11/5 will do.

Elsewhere a cheeky double on Swansea and West Brom to both win at 5/1 might see some money actually come my way for once.

Luke Bowley

Stephane Sessegnon was absolutely magnificent last weekend, and looks revitalised under Paolo Di Canio. He's looking a lot more direct, and more willing to have pops at goal, so I fancy him to get another this weekend against the Toffees.

Elsewhere I'm tipping Atletico Madrid to get a win away at Seville. It's not an easy game for Atletico by any means, but they're at a very good price, and I can't resist going with them.
