O'Neill: No Move Planned For Ambrose

After some spurious reports came out last week that Sunderland were interested in Celtic defender Efe Ambrose, it appears that's not the case.

Martin O'Neill has told reporters this morning that there's no truth in the reports which came out last week insisting he was looking to make a summer swoop for Celtic's Nigerian defender, Efe Ambrose.

When reports came out we didn't really feel the need to comment on them as it seemed to be the age old case of a former manager planning on taking players from his old club, and published without substance. We said as much on this week's podcast (which you can find here).

O'Neill said this morning that the reports which came out are news to him;

It's been news to me. I've not spoken to Neil Lennon about Ambrose.

Obviously Lennon and O'Neill are well linked with the former having been the latter's captain during their tenures at Parkhead, but this appears to be little more than a mischievous agent trying to drum up interest in his player amid a decent season for the Scottish League leaders.
