The draw for the FA Cup third round has been made, and Sunderland have an excellent chance of getting through to the next round having been drawn at home to Carlisle United.
The two clubs have met six times in the tournament before, although Sunderland have only won on two occasions. There have also been many meetings in the past when Sunderland were in the lower-reaches of the football league and Carlisle doing well for themselves.
In 20 first-class meetings between the two, Sunderland have only lost on five occasions.
The Cumbrians currently ply their trade in League One, and have several Sunderland connections, starting with manager Graham Kavanagh, a former Sunderland player.
In the squad itself there is also former Sunderland defender Pascal Chimbonda and midfielder Liam Noble.
The tie will take place on either January 4th or 5th, 2014.
