Vito Mannone - 6
Not a great deal he could do about either goal scored by Kevin Friend's side, and aside from that had very little to do all game. Vast majority of the home side's chances were straight at him.
Ondrej Celustka - 5
Got a bit lost in the game and didn't provide much threat going forward. Defensively ok before eventually being replaced as Sunderland went for it a bit more.
John O'Shea - 7
Played quite well and put up a stubborn resistance to Peter Crouch and any other aerial threat. A decent game, not overly spectacular. Didn't hoof it too much either which is a bonus.
Wes Brown - 6
Did well before being sent off in one of the most ridiculous decisions of the decade.
Phil Bardsley - 7
Did well defensively and provided much more attacking intent than Celustka on the other side. Been quite alright since he came back into the side, painful as it is to say.
Ki Seung-Yung - 8
Probably the pick of the bunch for Sunderland, more to follow...
Seb Larsson - 5
Picked up a booking for having the nerve to complain an outrageous decision by the Stoke gaffer. Other than that, it's hard to pick out much, if anything, Larsson managed to do well. Pretty anonymous in midfield.
Jack Colback - 6
Better than Larsson, not as good as Ki. Steady as he usually is in midfield with his combination of short passing and hard work.
Adam Johnson - 4
I've been a staunch supporter of Johnson while he goes through a difficult period at the moment but I couldn't help but feel he was pretty rubbish today and completely ineffectual.
Emanuele Giaccherini - 5
Offered very little before being replaced in the wake of Wes Brown's ridiculous dismissal.
Steven Fletcher - 5
Worked hard give he wasn't provided with much service. That said, really ought to have done better with a gilt-edged chance in the first half.
Valentin Roberge - 6
Came on for Giaccherini after Brown's red card. Did quite well alongside O'Shea, and if the FA decide to bizarrely uphold the dismissal then he should get a chance to continue in the position.
Fabio Borini - 5
Added little and didn't manage to create or take any chances during a brief appearance.
Jozy Altidore - 5
On for even less time than Borini, and offered even less. That said, I think he should have been on earlier to help Fletcher out rather than replace him later.
Man Of The Match: Ki Sung-Yeung
Tough to pick out a Man Of The Match from our side really as there wasn't a whole host of standout performers. Of the contenders though, I do think Ki was probably the best. Kept the ball well and moved it around for us. As he has been for a few weeks now, at the heart of all our decent play.
