Swansea City Vs Sunderland: Confirmed Lineups

The teams are in for Gus Poyet's first game as Sunderland manager, so here's what he's decided to do...

Richard Sellers

Gus Poyet has dropped a gigantic spanner in the works by naming Phil Bardsley in his first starting line-up as Sunderland manager. The far-from-fan-favourite lines up at left-back today, replacing Jack Colback, who drops to the bench.

With Ki Sung-Yeung ineligible, Seb Larsson starts in central midfield, and there is a welcome return for Steven Fletcher, who displaces Jozy Altidore up front.

Sunderland (4-3-3): Keiren Westwood, Ondrej Celustka, John O'Shea, Valentin Roberge, Phil Bardsley, Lee Cattermole, Craig Gardner, Seb Larsson, Emanuele Giaccherini, Adam Johnson, Steven Fletcher

Substitutes: Vito Mannone, Andrea Dossena, Jack Colback, David Vaughan, Jozy Altidore, Carlos Cuéllar, Fabio Borini

Meanwhile Michael Laudrup has opted for Swansea's familiar 4-3-3 formation, with Ben Davies a surprise inclusion following rumours that he would miss this game through injury. There are midfield berths too for Leon Britton and Jonathan de Guzman, the latter having shaken off a groin injury.

Skipper Ashley Williams remains a casualty, so Jordi Amat retains his place in central defence. There is no room for Jonjo Shelvey, with the former Liverpool man only making the bench.

Swansea City (4-2-3-1): Michel Vorm, Angel Rangel, Chico Flores, Jordi Amat, Ben Davies, Leon Britton, Jonathan de Guzman, Michu, Nathan Dyer, Wayne Routledge, Wilfried Bony

Substitutes: Gerhard Tremmel, Neil Taylor, Jonjo Shelvey, Dwight Tiendalli, José Alberto Cañas, Alejandro Pozuelo, Alvaro Vazquez
