Confirmed: Meyler Makes Hull Switch

With the focus mainly being on the 'ins', one has quietly slipped out of the door at the Stadium of Light.

David Meyler has completed his permanent move to Hull City, the club have confirmed.

The likable Irishman had been on loan at the KC Stadium and generally impressing for the Championship promotion contenders, where he has shown a surprising penchant for scoring.

Meyler will, unquestionably, leave the Stadium of Light with the best wishes of most fans, and some will also be wondering why he didn't get more of an opportunity under Martin O'Neill.

But the midfielder was dealt a bit of a rotten hand at Sunderland, seeing what looked like a promising start at the club ruined by injury. He probably needs a change and will feel reassured that he will get plenty of opportunity under Tigers boss Steve Bruce.

Meyler, who has signed a three-year-deal at Hull, had nothing but kind words about Sunderland as he left:

Sunderland is a special place and I will be sad to leave, but the show must go on and I have to further my career, and that will be away from Sunderland.

The opportunity came to move permanently and it was time for me to move on from Sunderland.

We'd like to wish David all the best at Hull. Though the fee is officially 'undisclosed', as is almost annoyingly standard these days, it is believed to be in the region of £1.5m.
