It's been speculated among fans for quite a while that Fraizer Campbell would be on his way out the club sooner rather than later. It hasn't particularly been a move which is heavily linked in the press though... until now.
With Hull City being linked as a potential destination for Campbell, his father has spoken out on any move in that direction as he told the Hull Daily Mail this week;
Fraizer is aware of what Steve Bruce has said about being interested in signing him and he would definitely be interested in coming back to Hull.
He is very impressed with the way they play and feels he would fit. He is also a big fan of Steve Bruce.
The problem is it is difficult at present, as there has not been any approach as of yet that Sunderland have told us about.
Martin O'Neill has not given any indication as to what may be going on, and he will be the key to whatever happens this month.
He hasn't been playing Fraizer as much as we would like, and he brought in Steven Fletcher, but he's not saying anything about letting him go either. We will have to see what happens.
It's quite a cheeky way of going about things if this has come via Campbell junior, although it's not likely to be anything more than him simply saying that he's not against it. Keeping his options open, as you might say.
While Campbell has by in large failed to impress during his time on Wearside and the exit door is probably beckoning for him. We can't deny any of that. However a move at the moment might leave us a little short without any strikers coming in, as there certainly seems to be a lot more being linked or going out than there is coming in.
If Campbell went it would pretty much leave us with only Steven Fletcher and Connor Wickham as Ji Dong-Won has already left the club and Ryan Noble is expected to follow in the very near future. Sorry, I'm just not counting James McFadden as a viable option at the moment.
Of course we only really play with one striker, but with Wickham and Fletcher both prone to picking up knocks, letting go of Campbell before another comes in would perhaps be tempting fate a bit too much for my liking. As poor as Campbell is, I'd rather have him than nothing.
It's one to keep an eye on, but at the moment it would seem more likely to happen towards the end of the window after we've done some business ourselves.
